Pedestrians traffic fatalities resulted in over 70,000 family injuries in the United States (NHTSA). Research (e.g., Hunter, Stutts, Pein, & Cox, 1996) indicates that a lack of driver high-visibility compliance enforcement to pedestrian crossing laws is associated with pedestrian motor vehicle crashes. Especially, in cases of Drunk or Buzzed Driving. Increased enforcement and increased publicity about the enforcement has led to substantial increases in compliance with occupant protection laws.
