The Silent Advocate: Maria’s Tulsa Story

Imagine Maria, a recent immigrant from El Salvador, shares her experience navigating the city’s bus system while balancing work and family responsibilities. Her story highlights the challenges and strengths of immigrant communities in accessing public transportation.

Maria clutched the worn transfer in her hand, the faded blue ink a stark contrast against her calloused fingers. The bus lurched, throwing her slightly against the window.  She barely noticed. Her mind was miles away, back in El Salvador, a place she’d fled, a place where shadows held more terror than the midday sun.  Here, in Tulsa, she was safe, mostly.  But the fear, the constant hum of anxiety, still resonated deep within her bones.

The bus system, though complicated at first, had become her lifeline. It carried her to her cleaning job, to the small grocery store where she haggled for the best prices, and, most importantly, it carried her to a sense of normalcy.  But Maria saw the problems. The tattered and crumbling sidewalks, the lack of crosswalks near busy intersections, the long waits in the cold without mid-section crossings– they mirrored her own struggles, the voids in her new life trying to find solid ground; peace and stability.

She wanted to help.  She often thought about speaking out, to advocates for safer streets, for a better system.  But the fear held her back.  The narco-terrorist she’d escaped was still out there, his reach long, his memory unforgiving.  Exposure, even in this new land, felt like a death sentence.

Maria’s story isn’t unique.  Many immigrants, like Maria, arrive in new cities carrying not just their belongings, but also burdens – fear, trauma, and a deep desire to contribute.  They want to be good citizens, to build a better life, but sometimes, circumstances force them to remain in the shadows.

But silence doesn’t equal apathy.  Maria found her voice in other ways.  She started small, writing anonymous letters to the city council about the dangerous intersection near her apartment.  She joined an online forum for Tulsa residents, using a pseudonym to discuss the challenges of public transportation.  She even volunteered at a local community center, helping new arrivals navigate the city, offering quiet support and guidance.

Maria understood that good citizenship wasn’t about grand gestures or public recognition. It was about small acts of courage, quiet contributions, and a deep commitment to her community, even from the shadows.  She was a silent advocate, a voice whispering in the wind, a testament to the strength and resilience of those who seek a better life, even when fear tries to silence them.  And in her silence, she found her own kind of powerful advocacy.

The African American Civil Rights Network Act

Signed into law by President Trump in January 2018, authorizes the National Park Service to coordinate and facilitate Federal and non-Federal activities to commemorate, honor, and interpret the history of the African American Civil Rights movement; the significance of the civil rights movement as a crucial element in the evolution of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; and the relevance of the African American Civil Rights movement in fostering the spirit of social justice and national reconciliation.

Sixteen alleged members of the Outcast Motorcycle Club in Georgia have been indicted in what prosecutors are calling the largest biker gang bust in state history in connection with a turf war in which they are accused of surveilling, shooting and robbing rival organizations.

Supreme Court rules in favor of Black Alabama voters in unexpected defense of Voting Rights Act

On June 8, 2023, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of Black voters in an Alabama congressional redistricting case. The court ruled that Republican redistricting violated the Voting Rights Act’s provisions against racial discrimination. Black voters alleged that a Republican-drawn districting map in Alabama was discriminatory. The map gave Black voters, who make up about 27% of the state, the majority in just one of the state’s seven congressional districts.

Why are listeners lacking?

Is it because of knowledge of bankruptcy or non-existing literature on pedestrian experience through systematic environmental components related to other ethnic identities?

Pedestrian behavior and smart data in different parts of the United States may be limited or even nonexistent.

Legal civil citizens, tax-paying, registered voters, compliant motorists, homeowners, and educated career ‘non-involved pedestrians’ may question the legitimacy of an infrastructure agency’s divergent policies?

What are the ultimate goal intentions according to Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance professionals?

A Biden administration employee– and one of the federal government’s first-gender non-binary officials — has been accused of stealing a traveler’s luggage from the Minneapolis airport in September.

Sam Brinton, the deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, was charged with felony theft after allegedly snatching a Vera Bradley suitcase reportedly worth $2,325 from baggage claim at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on Sept. 16, according to court documents.

Brinton, who uses they/them pronouns, was captured on surveillance video grabbing the luggage and removing its ID tag identifying the owner, the filings state.

Leadership actions, indifference, ignorance, or structured provision possibly compromise auxiliary procedures creating suspicion where change isn’t necessarily warranted.

Integrating different sources of smart data, including CCTV, bus dashboard cameras, GSV images, and crowd-sourced platforms could offer “two explanatory models that incorporate traffic conditions.”

Traffic Planning Coordination, Traffic Zone Corridor Designs, Pedestrian Destinations, and Operational protocols are being used by authorities and traffic development project engineers/planners to study the spatial-temporal patterns of modular travel.

The results of these and other studies help to inform pedestrian-friendly designers/traffic coordinators / and planners about the logistic barriers of viability related to products and materials used to maintain construction infrastructure which aid in organized travel.

Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Professional Support & Ultimate Goal Intentions

Each Temporary Traffic Control zone is different. Many variables, such as the location of work, highway type, geometrics, vertical and horizontal alignment, intersections, interchanges, road user volumes, road vehicle mix (buses, trucks, and cars), and road user speeds affect the needs of each zone.

Police said a woman was driving near 5700 S Skelley Drive in Tulsa when another driver blocked her car, got out, and fired a shot at her. Police say the shot missed the car and no one was hurt. Police are still searching for evidence.

The goal of Temporary Traffic Control TTC in work zones is safety with minimum disruption to road users.

The key factor in promoting Temporary Traffic Control TTC zone safety is proper judgment.

Are the ultimate goals viable, credible and in-line with the aims of the original granting agency’s, as well as, local law authorities initial intent?

Some measures of pedestrian activities include pedestrian crossing behavior, travel speed, travel time, travel distance, trip trajectory, trip purpose, pedestrian count, physical activity, security level-coordination, street crime(s), and social interaction(s).

Auto accidents involving cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles are one of the leading causes of preventable death in the United States and a cause for concern for Tulsa County residents.

While the death rate has improved since its height in the previous century, it is still significantly higher than other developed countries, according to the CDC

As autonomous mobility advances, our cars will increasingly connect with each other and surrounding infrastructure and network.

Drivers feel they can safely take their eyes off the road for 0-2 secs., but a car can travel the length of a football field in 5 secs. at 55 MPH.  Statistics like this are why more than 3,000 Americans die each year from distracted drivers.

Any form of driving while intoxicated is obviously a bad idea, but smoking a joint or taking an edible before getting behind the wheel can pose distinctive risks.

There’s no agreed-upon equivalent for cannabis, said Marlene Lira, a senior research manager at the Clinical Addiction Research and Education Unit at Boston Medical Center.

BANGOR, Maine (AP) – Praneeth Manubolu allegedly was driving the vehicle and has been charged with causing the deaths of three passengers who died in the crash, according to park officials. (Acadia National Park/Hancock County Jail).

A federal judge says, a blood sample taken from Praneeth Manubolu, the driver in a crash that killed three passengers in Acadia National Park, is inadmissible and will not be used at his trial.

Addressing Accident Victims Needs

PTN HOPE FUND Helps low income victims that are injured in pedestrian accidents and are unable to pay for medical bills.

The fund will help support victims who suffered from substantial injury and are unable to return to work or cannot go back to work until they fully recover.

Additionally, the fund will assist

According to Pelco Industries, a leading traffic monitoring company, “People, whether walking on foot, on a bicycle, or in a motorized vehicle will cross paths with vehicles.

Not surprisingly, intersections are a major cause of inner-city congestion leading to delays and citizen frustration and therefore a major concern of traffic management centers when it comes to safety.

  • Complicit transparency along with sharing ideas with others.
  • Making yourself clear; defining personal expectations; and setting realistic goals becomes practiced self-constitution, instead of an objective process.
  • Addressing solutions to transportation safety problems is a shared responsibility.
