Who is Rep. Mike Johnson?

(AP Washington) — Rep. Mike Johnson, a Republican of Louisiana, won the election to become the new speaker of the House on Wednesday, ending three weeks of chaos since Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s historic ouster and taking his place as second in line for the presidency

According to Meet Mike Johnson’s official page, “Rep. Mike Johnson is currently serving his fourth term representing the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Republican Conference, is a leader on the Judiciary and Armed Services Committees, and serves as a Deputy Whip for House Republicans. This is his second term as Vice Chairman, and has previously served as Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, known as the “intellectual arsenal” and the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress.”

Johnson Leads Hearing on Harmful Effects of “Gender-Affirming Care” for Children

Excerpts from Congressman Johnson’s Opening Statement:

“Sex isn’t something you are assigned at birth. It is a prenatal development that occurs when every unborn child is in its mother’s womb. You can’t surgically free yourself, or someone else, from this fact of life.

“However, we see adults inflicting harm on helpless children to affirm their world view: that is, that gender is fluid, sex can be surgically altered, and that there are no lasting consequences as a result of these gender transition procedures.
“‘Gender affirming care’ is anything but ‘affirming’ and ‘caring.’ It is adults deciding to permanently alter the bodies of children who do NOT have the capacity to make life altering decisions on their own.”
