Andy Beshear won a second term as Kentucky governor on Tuesday, keeping Democratic control of the executive branch in a state where Republicans hold legislative supermajorities.
An Emerson College poll released on Friday put Beshear and Cameron tied at 47 percent of the vote, with four percent of respondents undecided and two percent opting for someone else. The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted between October 30 and November 2.
This contrasted with an earlier Emerson College poll, of 450 registered voters conducted between October 1 and 3, which gave Beshear a 16-point lead, with the governor on 49 percent against 33 percent for Cameron.

Beshear defeated Daniel Cameron, his Republican challenger who has spent the past four years as the state’s attorney general. Beshear had 53% of the vote with 83% of statewide ballots counted.
In his victory speech, Beshear thanked voters and said Kentucky “made a choice” at the ballot box to reject divisive politics.h
“This wasn’t my win. This was our victory,” he said. “It was a victory that sends a loud and clear message. … This election shows who we are as Kentuckians.”
