Tulsa, Oklahoma District 5 City Councilman Grant Miller has been the subject of controversy recently, with highly-esteemed and honored Tulsa City Mayor G.T. Bynum questioned his fitness to be a City Councilor. Grant Miller is a member of the Tulsa City Council in Oklahoma, representing District 5. He assumed office on December 5, 2022. His current term ends on December 2, 2024. In a scathing job performance review after Bynum’s Testimony: Dan Potter asked Mayor Bynum flat out, “Is Grant Miller unfit to be a City Councilor. Yes, and the Mayor didn’t stop there with Grant Miller.”
Miller ran for election to the Tulsa City Council to represent District 5 in Oklahoma. He won in the general runoff election on November 8, 2022. Miller defeated incumbent Mikey Arthrell. Mykey Arthrell was a member of the Tulsa City Council in Oklahoma, representing District 5.
Arthrell assumed office on December 7, 2020. Arthrell left the office on December 5, 2022. Arthrell ran for re-election to the Tulsa City Council to represent District 5 in Oklahoma. Arthrell lost in the general runoff election on November 8, 2022.
Accusations were made and a lawsuit was filed based on election fraud allegations.
Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum says he reached out to both candidates at the center of a disputed midtown Tulsa city council seat election hoping a resolution will come quickly.
In a recent KRMG 102.3 radio broadcast, Mayor Bynum accused Tulsa Oklahoma City Councilman Grant Miller of promoting himself and using his position to exact revenge on people he thinks have done him wrong, stating that this behavior is not worthy of the Tulsa City Council. Ironically, under Mayor G. T. Bynum’s leadership, there was prompt mediation involving the alleged election fraud dispute claims wielded against the Miller campaign.
Tulsa City Council District 5 election could be overturned. An investigation was launched after reports were made stating poll workers were not handing out ballots to some Tulsa voters at Precinct 77 on Nov. 8.
In response to claims that Grant Miller has been abusive to City Hall staff or fellow councilors, Miller denied these allegations and invited anyone with evidence to come forward. He did admit to having political disagreements with fellow councilors but stated that he has never cursed or yelled at them and does not use profanity.
Miller holds a JD in law from the University of Tulsa and passed his bar exam, but his application to the Oklahoma Bar was denied in a seven-page denial letter.
Several criticisms were raised against Tulsa, Oklahoma District 5 Councilman Grant Miller, including his treatment of City staff, ongoing litigation against the City regarding open meetings violations, and his work at the Law Office of Ron Durban. One point that Miller was not prepared to answer had to do with his tenure interning at Durban’s office, where he misrepresented that he had left the office.

When asked about Mayor Bynum’s fitness for office, Miller criticized him as a “spineless Mayor” who never stands up for anything and has no backbone. He expressed his eagerness for Bynum to finish out his term so that a new Mayor could take office. According to our research, Tulsa City Mayor G.T. He has also held policy roles in the United States Senate for Senators Don Nickles and Tom Coburn, and has worked as senior management for a national real estate firm and the American Red Cross.
- In 2023, Bynum implemented a new organizational structure to embed community focus in city services, including the establishment of the Department of City Experience, reestablishment of the Public Works Department, and bringing the Tulsa Planning Office back to City Hall.
Miller believes that politics should have nothing to do with one’s fitness as an attorney and plans to appeal the denial of his admission to the bar. He also stated his intention to run again to represent District 5. Despite the controversy surrounding his fitness to be a City Councilor and attorney, Miller remains determined to continue serving his district and fighting for his beliefs.
