Tuesday was Election Day across Oklahoma, and voters in 53 counties across the state went to the polls to cast ballots in a special election.
A few key issues on the ballot included Tulsa mayor, Tulsa County Commissioner District 2, both Democratic and GOP, and Tulsa City Council races.
Tulsa’s mayoral race will be decided in November as no candidate has earned more than 50% of the vote, unofficial voting totals show. Although several Tulsa City Council positions are now decided. The next time Oklahomans will vote will be in the general election on Nov. 5, 2024.
With 100% of precincts reporting, three candidates earned about 30% of the vote, but as the top two vote-getters percentages equal at least 50%, only those two candidates will face off in a runoff election on Nov. 5.
Moving on in November are Monroe Nichols with 18,729 votes or 33.10% and Karen Keith with 18,457 votes or 32.62%.
Close behind, Brent L. VanNorman had 18,019 votes or 31.84%.
Further behind, Casey Bradford had 2% of the vote and Kaleb Hoosier, John Jolley and Paul Tay each had less than 1%.
Votes for the proposition, or yes, were at 21,472 votes or 66.43% of the vote, with 99% of precincts reporting. Votes against the proposition, or no, were at 10,851 votes or 33.57%.
