AP MINNEAPOLIS – With a 2024 NBA Finals hat proudly on his head and the large Western Conference finals trophy in his hands, a smiling Kyrie Irving led the charge of triumphant Dallas Mavericks players to their locker room celebration.
Irving scored 36 points as his Mavericks claimed the Western Conference title by routing the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-103 in Game 5 on Thursday at the Target Center. The 2011 NBA champions advanced to their third-ever Finals appearance after defeating the Timberwolves 4-1 in the best-of-seven conference finals. With Dallas, Irving will be making his fourth NBA Finals appearance – this time against his former Boston Celtics.
The 2024 NBA Finals will feature the league’s best team all season against one of basketball’s most dominant duos. The Boston Celtics — the top team in the Eastern Conference — will face Luka Dončić, Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks, winners of the Western Conference, in the best-of-seven series beginning on Thursday, June 6.
